How to Find a Tennis Partner in Geelong
Real courts and social tennis in Geelong, from Belmont and Highton to Lara and Ocean Grove, and how to find someone to hit with.
Geelong has plenty of tennis courts. The hard part is finding someone at your level who is free when you are. This guide covers real courts and programs around Geelong where you can hire a court, join a social hit or meet other adults who play.
Times and fees change, so check with each club before you go. We checked these on 8 November 2026.
The short answer
If you already play, book a court and bring one person. If you don't have that person yet, start with Cardio Tennis or a club social hit. You get matched with other players on the night, and the same faces come back each week. Tennis Geelong's social play and cardio list shows what runs on each day across the region.
Courts you can book
- Grovedale Tennis Club, Francis Street Reserve, 161 Francis Street, Belmont. Six hard courts with no lights. The club says these courts are free to the public, and you book them online through Grovedale's court booking page.
- Highton Tennis Club, Highton. Three hard courts are open to anyone for hire, day and night, when they aren't in use for matches or coaching. Daytime is free and night play has a fee for the LED lights. You book online and get a gate code: book at Highton.
- St Mary's Tennis Club, Thomson Reserve, Godfrey Street, Thomson. Two synthetic grass courts with lights can be booked, and two more courts are free public courts with no lights, open when there's no competition. Book at St Mary's.
- Lara Tennis Club, 42 Waverley Road, Lara. Eight courts, all with lights, bookable by the hour online. See Lara Tennis Club.
- Ocean Grove Tennis Club, Asbury Street East, Ocean Grove. Members and visitors book online: book at Ocean Grove.

Social tennis and Cardio Tennis
These are the easiest ways to meet people who play, because you don't need to bring a partner.
- Grovedale Tennis Club, Burdoo Reserve, 45 Wingarra Drive, Grovedale. Eight floodlit courts. Tennis Geelong lists Cardio Tennis on Monday mornings and Wednesday evenings, a women's social hit on Tuesday afternoons and an over 35s social hit on Thursday mornings. See Grovedale Tennis Club.
- Geelong Lawn Tennis Club, 12-20 Sommers Street, Belmont. Cardio Tennis for adults and late teens of all levels, with beginner, intermediate and advanced sessions on different days. You don't need to be a member, and the club offers a free trial. See Cardio Tennis at Geelong Lawn.
- St Mary's Tennis Club, Thomson. Runs Monday Night Ladies and Thursday Night Mixed from 7pm, and Midweek Ladies on Tuesdays. See St Mary's competitions.
- Lara Tennis Club. Tennis Geelong lists Cardio Tennis on Wednesday evenings.
- Geelong West Tennis Club, 11 Arnott Street, Geelong West. Three hard courts, with Cardio Tennis and adult lessons. Ask the club for current times: Geelong West Tennis Club.
You can also find other Cardio Tennis sessions on Tennis Australia's Cardio Tennis finder.
How to find a regular hitting partner
- Go to the same session four weeks in a row. Regulars notice new faces, and by week three you'll know who plays at your level.
- Ask one person after the session. "Would you be up for a hit on the weekend? I can book a court." Offering to book takes the effort off them.
- Be honest about your level. "I've just come back after ten years" helps you find someone who wants the same kind of game.
- Pick a court halfway between you. Belmont, Highton and Thomson are all easy to get to from central Geelong.
- Make it regular. Same day, same time each week. A standing booking is how a hitting partner turns into a mate.
Or post a hit on Bunchups
If you'd rather not wait for a club night, post a plan on Bunchups for tennis in Geelong. Say your level, the court and the time, and people nearby can ask to join. It works for a one-on-one hit or a small group for doubles, and it's free to use.

Do I need to join a club to play?
No. You can hire courts without being a member at several clubs, and Geelong Lawn Tennis Club says you don't need to be a member for Cardio Tennis.
I haven't played in years. Where should I start?
Cardio Tennis is a good start. Sessions are grouped by level, a coach runs them, and nobody is keeping score.
